DRINKING water is one of the easiest things to do. We only need to stand up, walk across, pour the water into a glass and drink from it. That’s all, as opposed to what some kids regard as agonizing and no fun.
Probably because it’s too easy, too natural, many people don’t drink enough water and they don’t even think about it. Simply put; they take it for granted. To them whether to drink or not to seems unimportant.
But then we all know that drinking water is as important as life itself.
Needless to say all lives on Earth depend on water. More than two thirds of our body is made up of water.
Apart from air, water is probably the most important nutrient to humans.
Many benefits can be derived from drinking water. For instance, a person who drinks plenty is less susceptible to getting the flu than a person who doesn’t. Even if he happens to catch it, he could get over it sooner than a person who doesn’t drink enough water.
A person who exercises, plays games or sports, studies or engages in other activities, must have gotten the habit of doing so. Once he stops or takes a breather from these, he automatically or needs to, drink some water. After that he resumes studying, gaming or exercising.
That routine seems normal enough. But the most important is that it helps a lot in keeping himself healthy.
The general misconception is that if we are not thirsty, we don’t have to drink water or to avoid from frequent visit to the toilet, we don’t drink more than what we think is necessary.
The best drinking water, of course, is lukewarm water. Whatever juices or sodas in either cans or packets we can do without. Lukewarm water is the most suitable for our body functions, in case we have forgotten. It even helps speed up work of the braces if you are wearing them.
The adults around us often say; as people we must be courageous.
But what actually is being courageous or brave? What has it got to do with drinking enough water or not, for our general well-being?
Being brave is certainly not having the guts to take on a dangerous task, collide heads on in fights or face-off our enemies.
Bravery is having the courage to do something we think is right or good for us, despite what others say on the contrary.
Reports have it that on average school children consume a staggering of more than 10 billion packet drinks annually.
Not only is the money spent on these drinks wasted, the health benefits derived from these drinks are almost nil.
And why don’t we drink plain water instead? Random investigation shows that our friends mock us when we drink only water in school.
But drinking water is a good habit. Why are we afraid that people would laugh at us because we drink only plain water? As long as it is a good deed and despite the mockery from others, we still have to do it. And there lies the true meaning of bravery.
So, if you truly want to be brave or have made up your mind about it, from tomorrow onwards bring a water bottle, take your own water to school.
Ignore those friends who laugh at you.
As long as you know you are brave enough, it will be okay.
And of course you can advise your friends that drinking water is both healthy and brave.
